Selanjutnya Dr. Conklin mengadopsi cara puasa yang dilakukan oleh Macfadden terutama terkait pengobatan epilepsi dan hasil pengobatanya menarik perhatian klinisi lain seperti Dr. Geyelin, seorang endocrinologist yang pertama berhasil mendokumentasikan efikasi puasa pada 36 pasien kejang. Di sisi lain Dr. Woodyatt secara aktif melakukan penelitian terkait diet pada penderita diabetes, dan mendapatkan hasil bahwa badan keton terbentuk pada orang normal yang menjalani puasa atau diet dengan kandungan karbohidrat yang sangat minimal dan tinggi lemak.
