This week on my GLP-1 journey with Zepbound, things took an unexpected turn — and not in a good way. I switched my injection site in hopes of reducing nausea, but instead, it hit earlier and stuck around longer than usual. And just when I thought it couldn’t get worse… I found a tick embedded in my chest. Yep, real life. While John now boasts a successful career as an IFBB Pro bodybuilder and fitness company owner, his journey towards the top was extremely difficult. Growing up, John never met his father, and his mother died at an extremely young age. This meant John only had his grandmother to take care of him. When his grandmother tragically passed away in 1999, John was left alone without his family to support him. As the years went by, John continued to face new adversities in his life. ⚡️💪🏻3 Performance Enhancing Drugs (that are safe & legal)! This is not medical advice, but it is based on published evidence. Also, we’re talking about #supplements, not drugs (but a little sensationalism never hurt anyone, right? 😉). My job as a surgeon works against my #fitnessgoals: the hours are erratic & my sleep is unavoidably poor at times. I’m also no spring 🐣, so I need all the help I can get to stay lean, fit, & strong. Diet & exercise has carried me a long way, but I’ve realized I need whatever advantages I can find to push things to the next level. Trouble is, there are lots of people trying to sell workout supplements, many of which have inconclusive or no effects. After doing my homework, I found that 3 supplements fit my goals & mesh well with my activities: 1. Creatine monohydrate. It’s well-studied & effective for building muscle. I use @efxsports Kre-Alkalyn primarily to avoid GI upset 🤢 2. Beta-Alanine. Also well-studied & has a synergistic effect with Creatine. I use @kleanathlete Sustained Release formulation, as the SR eliminates the benign parasthesias seen with Beta-Alanine supplementation (benign, but I still don’t want them!). 3. Caffeine. I don’t drink coffee & don’t take in much caffeine in general, so this is totally a workout enhancer for me. I’m a big fan of Sugar-Free @redbull about 30-45 minutes prior to a weights session. This regimen has worked really well for me in combination with a workout routine that includes 2-4 days of strength training & 1-2 days of cardio each week. The Beta-Alanine in particular seems to mesh well with the @bstrongtraining blood flow resistance training that has become my exercise cornerstone. With Atkins…they need to figure out where the legacy brand sits inside of an evolving weight management category. I see Atkins Nutritionals, SlimFast, Weight Watchers, and others in a similar bucket against the backdrop of the FDA approval of more and more pharmaceutical weight loss solutions. These GLP-1 drugs are providing a customer experience that’s closer to that image of a magic pill. That’s an issue for every weight management brand and they must navigate the reality that though these drugs have low penetration now…that could change quickly in the near-term future.
