Healthy Eating Habits Forweight Loss A Dietfree Approach
Partial or biased agonism to improve GLP-1 receptor agonist properties by Ben Jones, Clinical Senior Lecturer Imperial College London I will discuss our work aiming to understand whether the therapeutic properties and side effect profile of GLP-1R agonism can be improved by refining intracellular signalling properties. Ben Jones is a Clinical Senior Lecturer within the Section of Endocrinology and Investigative Medicine, and a Consultant in Metabolic Medicine based in Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and North West London Pathology. His research is focused on the translational pharmacology of G protein coupled receptors in metabolic disease. He completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Cambridge in 2006, and was a Foundation and Core Medical trainee on the Cambridge and Oxford rotations, respectively. In 2010 he moved to Imperial as an Academic Clinical Fellow in Metabolic Medicine. He was awarded an MRC-funded Clinical Research Training Fellowship in 2013 (supervisors: Prof Steve Bloom and Prof Tricia Tan), during which he applied the emerging concept of "biased agonism" to the GLP-1 receptor. After completing clinical training in 2020 he has was awarded the Imperial Post-Doctoral, Post-CCT Fellowship (IPPRF), and subsequently an MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship. Current work aims to establish the mechanism of action of “biased” incretin receptor agonists, and how their unusual effects can be exploited therapeutically in diabetes and obesity. https://thelongevityforum.com

Timestamps 0:00 Diabetics on meds starting keto: important 0:27 Always check with your doctor before stopping medications! 0:43 How keto changes your blood sugar 1:50 Are diabetes medications ok with low blood sugars? 3:12 Key takeaways 3:33 Need keto consulting? Healthy Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting: https://youtu.be/vMZfyEy_jpI https://youtu.be/mBqpaAKtnXE https://youtu.be/3dHcT1-K-tw In this video, we’re going to talk about what you need to know about diabetes, medications, and the keto diet. If you’re someone who is on medications for diabetes and you want to start keto, you may be curious as to what will happen when you go into ketosis. Will your medication needs change? First, I’d like to say that you should always talk to your doctor and get their approval for any changes to your medications. Medical doctors are trained to adjust your medications as needed. Type 2 diabetes is a problem of high sugars in the blood. Medications address this issue. The problem is, when you lower your carbs, your need for these medications may go down. This is because cutting out carbs will lower your blood sugar levels. Without making adjustments, you may run into a hypoglycemic situation. If you’re starting keto, continue to check in with your doctor as well as test your blood sugar levels frequently. This will give you indications of low or high blood sugars. For some people, blood sugar levels on keto go down pretty quickly. For others, it can take a lot of time—it depends on how bad your diabetes is and how your body responds to keto. If your blood sugars are low or normal, should you still take blood sugar medications? This is something you’re going to want to check with your doctor on. In my opinion, the answer is no. In summary, if you’re a diabetic on keto, you should test your blood sugars and consult your doctor frequently so they can make changes to your medications as needed. Dr. Newman talks with us about ways to help prevent migraines. However, migraines are now understood as a hereditary disorder which means that those with migraines have an over-sensitive brain. Lawrence C. Newman, MD: Our new understanding of migraine suggests that migraine is a hereditary disorder. In fact a gene is passed down from one family member to another, and what we think is happening with this gene is that the migraine brain is a very over-sensitive brain, and by that I mean those of us who have migraine, myself included, have a brain that doesn't do well with change, change in sleeping patterns, change in the weather, in women change in hormones, that is why migraines tend to occur around the menstrual cycle. Because migraine sufferers are so sensitive to change, we try to teach them something called headache hygiene. Things they can do to help themselves. The pneumonic that I use for my patients is that we want to plant the SEEDS for success. Now the first S stands for Sleep. We want our migraine sufferers to sleep regular hours, and that means on the weekends or on vacations, we do not want them sleeping extra hours because not only just too little sleep cause migraine, but oversleeping can induce an attack of migraine as well. E stands for Exercise. We want our migraine sufferers to exercise at least 30 minutes at a time, at least three day per week, and it is being shown that regular exercises especially regular aerobic exercise can decrease the frequency of somebody's migraine. The second E stands for Eating. So not only do we want migraine sufferers to identify their food triggers if they are present and avoid those things such as chocolate or cheese or wine or MSG-containing foods. We want them to eat regularly. Skipping a meal can be just as dangerous to a migraine sufferer as eating the wrong food. D stands for Drinking. Not only do I want our sufferers to avoid things that can cause headache, drinks that dehydrate you. Alcoholic beverages or caffeine containing foods but drink plenty of fluid. I instruct my patients to drink at least five glasses of water everyday and last S stands for Stress management. Do something for yourself to relax your stress. If it is walking around the block, taking up a hobby, doing yoga, something you can do for yourself at your own time to decrease the frequency of the headaches. Now also many migraine sufferers are worst to taking prevention medication. There are certain herbal products and over-the-counter products that can be used. Vitamin B2 or riboflavin in high doses, 200 to 400 mg per day has been shown to decrease the frequency of migraine. Magnesium supplementations or CoQ10 has been shown also to decrease migraine. And lastly the herbal product butterbur has been shown to help migraine sufferers decreasing the frequency and severity in both children and adults who suffer from migraine.
