I noticed several months ago that the manufacturer of my monthly migraine medication is the same as the manufacturer for my Zepbound. Both come in and almost identical pen form. However, there is a big difference in the cost of these medication’s. When my migraine medication, Emgality, first went on the market in 2018, it was not covered by insurance and it was being sold for $575 a month. My insurance still doesn’t technically cover it, but I’m only charged $11.20 for it now. There has been a lot of conversations and theories regarding these medications, and many people have thought that the high cost of the medication is because of the packaging… The pins and the boxes. However, I am showing here as well as in a longer video that is attached… This doesn’t seem to be the case. Obviously, GLP1s are extremely popular right now, and many of them are newer. Perhaps the GLP1 medications cost more to make than the migraine medication, sure. Maybe. Regardless, I think this shows that the cost is not about the pen. And perhaps… This is hopeful? Emgality used to be $575 per month. Zepbound and Mounjaro our currently $550-$1300 could this mean that it will eventually go down in price? Of course that’s what we’re all hoping. In the meantime, yes, there are vials available at a cheaper cost than the pens, but those files are only affordable in the 2.5 mg and 5 mg doses. So it’s basically just for people starting out on the medication or those who have tapered off. I am extremely grateful this medication exists, and I am able to access it, although just barely. The high cost and the shortages make it very challenging. I post videos about high protein plant-based foods and recipes. I also post videos regarding my experiences and regarding remedies for side effects and getting through the challenges of being on these medications.
