Of course, most key for weight loss is keeping calories in check. However, just as important, if not more so, is making absolutely sure that you’re eating food that not only keeps you well-fed but fuels a healthy body. It goes beyond the act of eating. Eating the right kinds of foods sets you up for weight loss success and improving your health. You’d be hard-pressed to find a plan that doesn’t urge you to favour wholefoods – the legitimately healthy foods – over processed junk. Choosing nutrients over empty calories (ie, those that are frugal with providing us with anything good), means downing the sodas, swapping the crackers and cookies for fresh fruit, and ditching the processed bars for whole ones. If you simply can’t cut out your weekly doughnut, but find yourself losing steam and flagging on green veggies, just consider your doughnut to be a dessert – one that happens to come early in the day.

While Zion Williamson’s nutrition was well-managed, he also incorporated regular exercise into his weight-loss goals. As a professional athlete, he had a baseline level of fitness that put him ahead of the game, but he knew that losing weight would require even more work than he was already doing.
